[Here's an interview that has been long overdue, but which, I guarantee, will have been worth the wait. This interview, I found to be particularly inspiring, especially for African youth, and I knew that no amount of literary craft could communicate the passion and enthusiasm relayed during the interview. So, we're going to let Peter F. La-Anyane Yobo and Pichon Duplan of iStandAbove tell you all about their amazing initiative themselves! The motivations behind it, why self-esteem is important for youth, their thoughts on development in Ghana and Africa through our first Circumspect podcast! Enjoy!]

Up and coming young Ghanaian writer, author of ‘Breath of Fate’, motivated by her aspirations towards distinction. LSG talks with her about her present and her future.
Who is Evelyn Owusu?
Born on the 5th of June in Liverpool, Britain; raised in Ghana; schooled in Morning Star, Motown and Legon. (Evelyn pauses here, saying that she would like to give a more in-depth answer, ‘go deeper’.) I’m someone who likes to give back. I feel I have been blessed for a reason and ‘in future’ is not the time to start blessing others- right now is the time. I’m someone who loves to see others live their dreams, fulfill their dreams. I laugh a lot- I can’t help it.
I aspire to be a blessing unto others who would pay it forward, and they pay it forward until an ending chain is formed. I aspire to make people, Ghanaians especially, know that we don’t need to look unto others- be it a foreign country or even our own government- for help, and that the solutions to our situations lie within us, if only we’re willing to work hard at them. I believe there’s no other way to achieve this than living by example, and guiding others by example- developing projects that would help people help themselves.
When did you start to consider yourself a writer?
My answer to this question might be strange considering the fact that I wrote story after story since Class Six. But I didn’t consider (more…)

A native of Ghana and a graduate of Temple University Japan, Miss Catherine Hagan was inspired to set up The Right To Rights Foundation, which aims at educating Ghanaians about their basic human rights, and holding government accountable for ensuring that these rights are not neglected. With their creative rights-based approach, Catherine and the foundation are set to take the non-profit sector in Ghana by storm. Check out the interview and the Right To Rights Foundation Website.

LSG: What are your key aspirations in life, and who are your main influences or role models?
CH: I really want to be a lawyer. I will be getting into Law School next year, so hopefully, in four years I should be a lawyer. This might sound old and cliché, but my main role model and influence is my mum, Ernestina Hagan. She definitely keeps me grounded and I learned everything I know from her. Funny enough, she is also a lawyer so I don’t know if that factors into my wanting to be a lawyer.
LSG: How and when did the idea of Right To Rights come about? (more…)

LSG: Tell us a bit about yourself. Who’s Ekow Bentum?
EB: I am the elder child of the family and I was born in February of 1984. When I turned four, My father’s pursuit of higher education led him to Trondheim, Norway and I joined him with my mother a year later.
I was enrolled into Birralee, an English speaking school in the heart of Trondheim. The school placed an emphasis on engendering a love for reading amongst its pupils and it wasn’t long before I became addicted to story books and in particular the works of Roald Dahl.
That is how I soon ended up developing a highly creative and imaginative mind. (more…)
